by Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime
The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, shortened as Global Initiative, is an NGO with its HQ in Geneva. It comprises a network of independent global and regional experts working on human rights, democracy, governance, and security issues. Their network also includes law enforcement and government agents who share the objective of developing innovative strategies and responses to organized crime.
They produce a series of articles, research papers, and country reports often cited in major news sites and documents. Their research focuses on major crimes that have a worldwide effect; these include human trafficking and smuggling, arms trafficking, flora and fauna crimes, and international drug trade.
The Global Initiative is heavily supported by the governments of Norway and Switzerland and has offices in Vienna, Cape Town, and Malta.
This report is one of the critical projects of the Global Initiative that provides metrics-based information to orient policymakers on how the efficacy of their responses mitigates the impact of organized crime. It assesses levels of criminality and the nations´ resilience to organized crime. It does so by evaluating three key pillars: criminal markets criminal actors resilience
The Index draws data from quantitative and qualitative sources and is underpinned by several subject matter experts. This report was also made in partnership with ENACT, the Institute for Security Studies, INTERPOL, and the United States Department of State.
