by UN Security Council Report (SCR)
The SCR is a UN organization that generates "independent, impartial, and informative" reports on worldwide events. Reports are region-based (Africa, Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Asia) and thematic-based (Counter-Terrorism, Peacekeeping, Maritime Security, Human Rights, etc).
The UN is a major player in global intelligence thanks to its privileged access to many of the world's conflict zones through peacekeeping operations (PKOs).
Uniformed and civilian personnel constantly generate reports from some of the hottest spots in the world, from Haiti to Lebanon. The UN deploys more combat troops than many nations, with its 115,000 military, police, and civilian personnel collecting passively.
Its sources are reportedly primarily HUMINT and debrief from recce patrols, checkpoints, and observers with a recent and gradual expansion into IMINT and SIGINT disciplines.
These are combined with allied and partner intelligence to generate UN indicators and warnings, predict the intentions and actions of conflicting parties, and public reports.
This month France will be president of the UNSC, and has already planned organizing a ministerial level brief on Ukraine. The nuclear plants on the front line appear to be the main issue on the agenda.
There will also be briefs about the DRC, a renewal of resolutions on Libya, and consultaions on Somalia, Afganistan, Syria, and Sudan.
