UN and Mex Gov Published Poppy Plantation Monitoring Data 2019 - 2020 and 2018 - 2019

A report from the UN office on Drug and Crime (UNDOC) with association of the Mexican government on poppy plantations

WHAT IS IT?

The Government of Mexico and UNODC have over the past years worked to reduce poppy planting in the country by implementing vital programs such as the "MEXK54 Project "Monitoring System for Illicit Plantations in the Mexican Territory."

The 2022 December 8 report is the fifth report released by the Mexican Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), the Ministry of the Navy of Mexico (SEMAR), and the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), with the accompaniment of the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) and the technical cooperation of UNODC.

This analysis of relevant figures such as:

The report shows that the main areas of concern are the remote and difficult-to-access zones of the states of Guerrero, Nayarit, Oaxaca, and the Golden Triangle (mountainous areas of Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and Durango).
